Consultant Spotlight: Hailey Merrill

Jul 30, 2020 | people

Our Consultant Spotlight series lets us tell the stories of the people who make up the Lions & Tigers community. Next up is Hailey Merrill, L&T Consultant, Digital Designer, Pacific Northwest local and French film enthusiast.

AREA OF EXPERTISE

I’m a freelance digital designer with a little over six years of experience in the design industry. I specialize in both UI/UX design and digital illustration. I am currently working on conceptual UX/UI web pages and experiences for Microsoft Partners in the One Commercial Partner organization.

HOW DID YOU END UP IN THE DESIGN INDUSTRY

I was always drawing as a child, but design gives me guidelines to work between which takes the pressure off the self-expression of art. It allows my creativity to feel like it has more of a structural purpose and then, when I really feel like doing something for myself, I can draw or paint on my own without that pressure.

WHERE DID YOU GROW UP

Gig Harbor, Washington.

WHY LIONS & TIGERS

When I read that the Lions & Tigers Founder took her personal experience with work pregnancy discrimination and decided to create a remote work environment that works for everyone on their own time, I was inspired. I am excited to work with a company that leads with transparency and trust for their consultants.

DESCRIBE YOUR IDEAL SATURDAY

I currently live close the beach and being near the water has always inspired me. My ideal Saturday consists of reading or painting on our deck or taking a ferry adventure to one of the nearby PNW islands.

BENEFIT OF FLEXIBLE, HIGH IMPACT WORK

Flexible, high impact work allows consultants like myself to put their energy and time into projects that benefit their learning and growth in the most efficient way possible, while still maintaining a healthy work-life balance and providing the best work to their clients.

FAVORITE MOVIE

I love French films. Especially anything with Audrey Tatou.

ADVICE TO OTHERS NAVIGATING CAREER TRANSITIONS

I’ve found that working with other professionals who advocate for a flexible, work-smarter-not-harder career mindset has been the best type of support in helping me transition into managing my own freelance career.
