Consultant Spotlight: Mike Kirby

Jul 20, 2021 | people

Our Consultant Spotlight series lets us tell the stories of the people who make up the Lions & Tigers community. Mike Kirby (he/him) is a versatile marketing professional with extensive experience in product marketing and partner programs. He is also a talented musician, but the title he cherishes most is that of “Dad” to his two teenagers.

ABOUT MIKE

I was born and raised in Southwest Washington on the coast and have lived in the Seattle and Eastside since graduating from Washington State University (Go Cougs!). I’m the father of two teenagers and just got married on July 17th.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT LIVING IN THE PNW

I love the water and the weather. I’ve traveled all over the world, and you can’t beat the Pacific Northwest.

BEST PARENTING ADVICE

Don’t be afraid to let them make mistakes.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE

I have worked as FTE and consultant at Microsoft for many years with a breadth of experience in various areas, including product/program management, relationship marketing (Marketo), and content management. I am passionate about marketing, especially introducing/launching new products and technologies. I also enjoy developing and deploying new business processes and workflows.

WHY LIONS & TIGERS

I previously worked for another consulting company with Brea in OCP, and before that, with Eric Twelker and Mike Jensen at R2i and really enjoyed my experiences working with them. October is my contiguous 1 year anniversary, but it’s been longer. I appreciate L&T’s commitment to their consultants and flexible work environment. I also have hopes to add “Bears” to the company name someday. 😊

AREAS OF INTEREST & PASSIONS

I’m a dad first and enjoy supporting my 2 teenagers in their scholastics and activities — coaching my kids in baseball, basketball and umpiring over the years.

I’m also a musician (keyboards, drums, guitar) and have played in bands (including the Ghetto Monks, Kitchen Mick, The Jilly Rizzo, and the Cocktail Revisionists) and have done studio work with many artists over the years (and still do). My band the Ghetto Monks held a reunion show in Seattle 2 weeks before COVID hit last year. I have a home studio now and produce music. And I’m looking forward to going to concerts again!

BEST CONCERT

I’ve been to hundreds of concerts, but the best was probably one of my first: Bruce Springsteen on the Born in the USA tour at the Tacoma Dome.

BIGGEST BENEFIT TO HIGH IMPACT, FLEXIBLE WORK

I enjoy the schedule flexibility and the ability to spend time with family helps keep me focused and produce higher quality work.

AN IDEAL WEEKEND

The perfect weekend would be sailing in the San Juans with my friends and family.

ADVICE TO OTHERS NAVIGATING A CAREER TRANSITION
