Consultant Spotlight: Rebecca Lashley

Jun 24, 2021 | people

Our Consultant Spotlight series lets us tell the stories of the people who make up the Lions & Tigers community. A consultant for 13 years, Rebecca Lashley (she/her) appreciates being able to balance high-impact work with time to pursue personal passions. Some of those passions include mountain climbing, volunteering and traveling. This summer will be full of adventure as she is living and exploring on the road in an RV with her partner and her two dogs.

Consultant Spotlight

ABOUT REBECCA

A Seattle area resident for 20 years, I was raised on cattle and sheep ranches in rural Wyoming and Kansas where I learned the importance of teamwork alongside my 3 sisters as the resident hard-working ranch hands. After completing my Bachelor’s degree, I left the Midwest for the East Coast where I completed my graduate studies, hiked sections of the Appalachian Trail, worked as a contractor for the U.S. Navy and began doing volunteer trips to work in orphanages in Eastern Europe.

With the upheaval of the pandemic, my partner Teresa and I decided to convert our primary residence to an AirBnB, downsize and move into a 40’ fifth wheel RV to travel the US with our dogs Foster Pepper and Maia Papaya. We are currently adjusting to life on the road, and I will be taking the summer off from L+T project work to enjoy exploring.

BEST THING ABOUT LIVING ON THE ROAD

Best thing about living on the road is how everything is simplified down (once we fully get the hang of RV functions!) and being able to go where the day takes us.

WHY SEATTLE

Wanting to return to the chilled, laid back atmosphere of the West, I moved to Seattle in 2001 where I was able to expand my passion for the outdoors. In addition to hiking and backpacking, I started mountain climbing in 2007 when I signed up to participate in the Climb to Fight Cancer climbing Mt. Rainier and benefiting cancer research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. I have gone on to climb Mt Adams, Hood, and St Helens multiple times – as well as Mt Kilimanjaro – benefiting the same cause.

NEXT CLIMB

I was slated for a trek to Everest Base Camp in 2020, which the COVID pandemic has postponed to March 2022. To date, I have raised nearly $45,000 for cancer research with my climbs.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE

I have 15 years industry marketing experience in a variety of verticals including non-profit, telecom, higher ed, and manufacturing.  For the past 13 years, I have been consulting providing strategic engagements and managing teams at Microsoft, Facebook, Apple and more.

BIGGEST INSPIRATION

My maternal grandparents who suffered great losses in their lives, but chose to always be resilient, positive and loving. Their laughter and unconditional love are my strongest memories.

WHY LIONS & TIGERS

I was drawn to the flexible schedules and the opportunity to collaborate with awesome people.

AREAS OF INTEREST & PASSIONS

I love anything outdoors and have a passion for traveling. I have visited nearly 30 countries and 49 states so far! I also enjoy connecting with people around shared interests and solving problems.

There are a number of causes I support and care about including cancer research, dog rescue organizations, and volunteering in orphanages.  To date, I’ve volunteered in Russia, Ukraine, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Peru and Cambodia and post-hurricane rebuilding in the Caribbean.

FAVORITE TRAVEL DESTINATION

Budapest, Hungary

BIGGEST BENEFIT TO HIGH-IMPACT, FLEXIBLE WORK

The biggest benefit is the ability to balance impactful work with time away from the laptop to pursue personal passions.

ADVICE TO OTHERS NAVIGATING A CAREER TRANSITION

There isn’t only one path to finding success and contentment. Don’t put effort into living by someone else’s blueprint; find your own path and fully embrace every opportunity even if it’s a path no one else is on. You can’t go wrong when you truly write your own story.
