Consultant Spotlight: Shanna Case

May 27, 2021 | people

Our Consultant Spotlight series lets us tell the stories of the people who make up the Lions & Tigers community. A true Pacific Northwest local, Shanna Case loves exploring the outdoors with her husband and two sons. Shanna is an experienced and successful marketer who was thrilled to find a community at Lions & Tigers full of people who share her beliefs in working smart and balancing life.

ABOUT SHANNA
I’m a local gal. I grew up in Redmond, WA and graduated from UW in Business Management. While I always thought I’d try living somewhere else, there have been too many good reasons to stay in the PNW. I’m surrounded by family, have a wonderful and flexible career, and love to explore the mountains and the sea.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE
My career mostly spans working with Microsoft and has evolved naturally through many phases of my life. I began on the agency side and ultimately managed a team of 20 and a multi-million-dollar budget of US subsidiary annual marketing spend. I loved the energy of the agency and that it taught me how to tackle large challenges as a team. I then spent 5+ years as a FTE in the Central Marketing Group at Microsoft running global integrated marketing campaigns and traveling to subsidiary offices. This time inspired my love of travel and culture. After my second son was born, I chose to become a consultant to allow more time for my family. As Brea so eloquently states, this is where I identified my ‘highest and best use’!

WHY LIONS & TIGERS
I was thrilled to find a group of such like-minded people. I’ve been working as an independent consultant part-time since 2010 and it was fantastic to find a team equally passionate about working smart and balancing life in whatever way they choose. The community at Lions & Tigers is amazing. Life as an independent contractor can be lonely… but not anymore!

MORNING OR NIGHT PERSON
Is there such thing as a mid-day person? Really, I love the mornings, but only if I force myself to go to bed early!

AREAS OF INTEREST & PASSIONS
Professionally, I am drawn toward projects that need both strategic development and executional ownership. I always aim to leave a project in a better place than I started it, and with a clear roadmap for success. Personally, I am a wife and soccer-mom to two boys (ages 12 and 15). We also have a Labrador Retriever named Lola. I often find myself chasing my boys down a hill on skis or a mountain bike. I enjoy traveling the world (greatly missing this right now), hiking, yoga, and a crisp glass of sparkling rose. We’re involved in many philanthropies supporting environmental protection, animal rescue, and children’s health.

FAVORITE TRAVEL DESTINATION
South Africa! We were hoping to return this summer but…COVID. I find now in times of unnecessary stress over trivial things that looking through our safari pictures grounds me again and reminds me of the great perspective I gained there. The people, the culture, the animals, and the sea make me feel so grateful for our earth and my life.

DREAM TRIP
Iceland

BIGGEST BENEFIT TO HIGH IMPACT, FLEXIBLE WORK
Raising my boys to see me as both a successful marketer and an engaged wife and mom.

AN IDEAL SATURDAY
Waking up from the sun and the birds followed by coffee and yoga. A hike or bike ride with my husband and dog while the teens sleep in 😊. Blueberry pancakes for all. Watching my boys play soccer. Dinner on the deck, followed by a family game of pickleball!

HOW DO YOU TAKE YOUR COFFEE
Just a splash of oat milk.

ADVICE TO OTHERS NAVIGATING A CAREER TRANSITION
A few of my favorites. Hopefully something resonates…
• Identify your values of success beyond the conventional (title + salary) and use these to make decisions and measure happiness.
• Nothing is forever. Regularly take time to re-evaluate what is working well and what you may want to re-prioritize.
• Set boundaries and stick to them! Only YOU know how YOU work best.
