Ada Developers Academy Hackathon

Dec 15, 2022 | people, projects

With only nines day, a highly skilled group of L&T consultants managed to make Ada Developers Academy’s Take Haction! Hackathon a roaring success.

Ada Developers Academy is a non-profit coding bootcamp rooted in social impact. Ada’s mission is to prepare women and gender expansive adults to be software developers while advocating for inclusive and equitable work environments. They focus primarily on the needs of BIPOC and low-income communities.

Following the overturn of Roe V. Wade, Ada Developers Academy recognized the direct impact on the communities they serve and took action. During planning, they identified a need for additional help and called on Lions & Tigers to make their goals a reality.

With a lead time of just over a week, our consultants were tasked with organizing a hybrid hackathon, Take Haction! Through strong collaboration with Ada staff, L&T consultants scoped and prepared the event to ensure the participants were geared for an enjoyable and rewarding experience.

During the event, our consultants wore multiple hats which included emceeing, coordinating marketing, organizing meals and more. Spread across two days, the 15 hours of the event were overseen by two teams. Gabriela Tamburino and was on site for the in-person event along with Cristine Gorman. Chris Harnois and Adee Wada supported the online participants. Additional content marketing support was provided from Alisha Sancivens.

L&T Consultant Gabriela emcees the event, speaking on a mic in front of the group of hackers in a blue shirt and jeans. The hackathon was a huge success. The efforts of eight teams resulted in amazing projects addressing issues related to racial justice + equity, gender equity, supporting community, climate action, and accessibility.

“When organizations are rooted in impact, magical things can happen,” Gabriela said.

We couldn’t agree more. It’s inspiring to see our consultants bring in their skills from other areas to make a last-minute ask a total success.
