Team Spotlight: Janese Mott

Jan 20, 2022 | people

Our Spotlight series lets us tell the stories of the people who make up the Lions & Tigers community. After a decade in the private education sector, Janese Mott (she/her) made the leap to financial consulting and joined the Lions & Tigers team in 2020. An avid learner with a love for travel, Janese understands the benefit of remote work. She is currently living life on the road in a fifth wheel with her partner and pup alongside.

ABOUT JANESE
I was born in Heidelberg Germany (“army brat”) but moved back to the States when I was 2. I spent my formative years mostly in Georgia (yes, I have a wonderful Southern accent). This is where I developed my love for University of Georgia football (current National Champions). Go Dawgs! I currently reside in sunny Florida but am seldom there as I’m traveling the country.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
I spent the beginning of my career in the private education sector as a high school math teacher and then administration. About 10 years ago, I made a career change and started my own firm offering financial services to small/medium size companies (accounting, software support, data analysis). I joined L+T about 2 years ago as a consultant with the finance team.

WHY LIONS & TIGERS?
I’ve always had the dream of working remotely full-time to provide balance in my life. L&T’s ideals and core values fit perfectly with not only that desire but in every other aspect. I love the inclusivity and purpose-driven way L&T operates. It is obvious in more than just nice words repeated by leadership – it is lived out in the day-to-day operations by the entire team.

AREAS OF INTEREST & PASSIONS
National Parks and outdoor activities are at the top of the list. I’m an avid “learner” – I’m always digging into something new – usually some new software or platform. I also love landscape photography and plan to do lots more in the coming year.

LIFE ON THE ROAD
I’m currently exploring the country in a fifth wheel with my partner and pup. I love the look on people’s faces when they realize that such a short, small woman is behind the wheel of a heavy-duty truck towing a fifth wheel. At a recent toll stop the attendant told me, “I think you need a bigger truck” with a huge smile on his face.

BENEFITS OF FLEXIBLE WORK
I have time for LIFE; I can travel; I can be there for my family all while providing impactful work that coincides with my skills. Basically, I love that I get to use my nerdy skills in a way that impacts the world and still have balance.

COFFEE OR TEA
Sweet Iced Tea- though caffeine in any form is acceptable.

SAGE WISDOM
Don’t wait! Continue to learn and expand your horizons. Seldom is there a “perfect” scenario so do what you can now. Small steps add up over time.
Be brave – change is scary, face it anyway.
Find your people – those that share your core values and operate based on them. They provide a great foundation when things are difficult.
