Local Company Recognized for Their Commitment to DEI
Lions + Tigers wins LWHRA Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access Business Case Contest
BELLEVUE, Wash. —December, 3, 2021 —Lions + Tigers is proud to announce it has won the Lake Washington Human Resource Association (LWHRA) IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access) to Action Business Case Contest. The contest recognizes companies that have shown a true commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity + Access and are making an impact in the IDEA space.
The LWHRA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee introduced the Business Case Contest to highlight businesses committing to making Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) to Action a part of their strategic plans. As the contest description states “IDEA should treat equity as a ‘need to have’, not a ‘nice to have’, recognizing the social and economic benefits that flow from workplace parity–something that is a part of every decision a company makes.”
Lions + Tigers is a female-founded marketing, operations and strategy consultancy driving workforce innovation through an agile and high-impact model. In 2020 Lions + Tigers approached several DEI practitioners with a project proposal outlining their commitment for long-term partnership, stating their shortcomings, and outlining what they thought they needed to change within their organization. After taking the time internally to come to a place of honesty and recognizing there was work to do, they looked for a partner to come alongside their DEI journey. They teamed up with Kimfer Flanery-Rye of MyKimisms, LLC who helped Lions + Tigers with recommendations on supporting their internal community and the BIPOC community and on becoming an anti-racist organization.
“From the beginning, when I received the work proposal from the client team at Lions + Tigers, I knew they were serious and doing it thoughtfully. As a DEI consultant and being in community with other DEI consultants, we experienced so many organizations reaching out in a way that fed the frenzy of performative actions after the atrocity of the murder of George Floyd. Many wanted help writing statements, workshops and booking speakers – all quick short-term fixes – but were not truly ready to look within the organizational systems of inequities to make true change. The Lion + Tigers team is truly committed to what I also call the IDEA: Inclusion = Diversity + Equity + Accessibility to build culture from the inside out.”
With Kimfer’s partnership, Lions + Tigers committed to an IDEA framework that included but was not limited to, audits of the brand’s mission, vision, values as well as internal policies and procedures The company proved to have delivered on clear KPIs when the 2021 annual DEI team survey showed an over 20% increase in respondents seeing their direct manager as strongly supporting DEI as a core value.
“As we look to 2022, our work to foster sustainable change carries on. There is no end date to this work. We will continue pushing to harden our practice of inclusion at work, prioritizing women’s economic access and BIPOC representation, working intentionally to say yes to clients and partners who share our belief that diversity of gender, race and ability drives innovation at work and in our communities” stated Lions + Tigers COO Ashley Jude.
